Are we excited for the World Cup? These cupcakes are making me a little more interested I’ll have to admit. I think I’m just not getting my hopes up.  Apart from actually watching the football I’m more looking forward to pre-football BBQs, checking out Glen Johnson, and eating football themed treats, such as these, which I made to celebrate a few birthdays and the start of the World Cup yesterday. I chose carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and Oreo cupcakes as they seemed like manly options. I decorated with football themed toppers and co ordinating sprinkles. A few of these will definitely make those 90 minutes a little sweeter, but I’m not sure they will even last until half time.

Even though we were only in New York for a week I managed to taste lots of different foods in lots of different areas. So much in fact that this post will have to be split in to two parts! This time of year in New York is amazing. We watched the speedy transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas happen overnight with the shops covered in lights and decorations. It was really special and we made sure we saw all the festive department stores, giant trees and holidays sights. We visited loads of  locations such as Greenwich, Uptown, Williamsburg and Soho. I love Thanksgiving. Maybe it’s because you get to eat turkey before Christmas. Or maybe it’s the lovely thought of seeing faces I only get to see every now and then. It’s both of these, but it also because of pumpkin pie. I love it. Seriously. Pumpkin and spices, there’s nothing better. The one we have at Thanksgiving always tastes so good and so not wanting to intrude on my love of it I made pumpkin cupcakes instead. I’ve had a tin of pumpkin in the cupboard just waiting for the moment to make these. I used this Hummingbird recipe and topped them with cream cheese frosting.
I finally mastered the cream cheese frosting. Previous attempts have always gone runny and I’m never able to pipe it. So following these tips I managed to get it right. The key was to beat the butter and sugar together for a while first and then add the cream cheese and use cold Philidelphia that way it stays nice and thick! They taste really good, nice and soft because of the pumpkin and not too sweet. I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner tonight and will be taking lots of these with me. I’ve been waiting since last November to make these. I find Movember hilarious. I generally like a bit of facial hair so to celebrate this hirsute month I made these cupcakes. I went for the manly combination of  chocolate guinness cake with cream cheese frosting and topped them with these moustaches. I used this recipe and you can definitely taste the Guinness! I love supporting any funny fundraising, and if you want to too you can find my friends’ donation pages here and here.

I’ve been looking forward to the Jubilee weekend for a while now, and it was just as good as I expected it to be. Our house was filled with family and overflowing with food. Alongside other contributions such as the amazing quiches made by my Grandmother, I made a ‘Jubilee Blueberry’ cake and cupcakes. As always my mum made the day extra special by adding touches such as the incredible crown stand, red white and blue flowers, balloons and personalised party bags.
