I’ve been dreaming of putting mini party rings on cupcakes for a while now. The time finally came just over a week ago, before I went on holiday, when the weather was just starting to turn. It had been rainy and grey and with the temperature dropping I decided it qualified as biscuit weather. You know what I mean. Obviously not wanting to settle for just a biscuit or a cupcake with tea I combined the two. I made vanilla cupcakes but filled half with raspberry jam topped with sprinkles and a mini party ring. For the other half I went for a jaffa cake cupcake. I love that all these biscuits now come in mini form. For that cupcake I filled the centres with sweet orange jam and topped it with chocolate orange buttercream, chocolate sprinkles and the mini jaffa cakes.

I love getting unusual cupcake requests and this has to to be one of my favourites. I was asked to make Ancient Egyptian themed cupcakes for our friend’s children and I was so excited. I chose to make fondant toppers shaping them in to pyramids, pharaohs, hieroglyphics and mummies. I aimed to make them as kid friendly as possible using pastel colours and made the pharaohs smiley. I used gold shimmery dust to make a few of them sparkle so they matched the gold cases.

I don’t really know how to talk to you about my love of Frozen. I could tell you just how many dozens of times I’ve seen it. Go into detail about how it’s one of the most adorable films I’ve seen in ages. Or how all of us 24+ year olds sang along to the soundtrack in the car on my recent road trip in LA. I could even tell you how many times I’ve asked someone if they wanted to build a snowman even though it’s July. However it’s probably in my best interest to just tell you about these cupcakes and my friend Janay’s awesome Frozen birthday party. Man, was it awesome. It involved an amazing BBQ, Frozen karaoke and some unbelievably dressed male Elsas. Janay, of course, was Olaf, and not wanting to show up empty handed, I whipped up these Oreo cupcakes with her favourite character on them. I used fondant to shape each one, so their expressions all turned out slightly different which I kind of like. Happy Birthday Janay! x

This Friday night we travelled back in time for a 90s themed sleepover. Lovely Alexia agreed to host a bunch of us girls for a sleepover full of old school food, retro board games, plenty of cheesy music and our favourite childhood films. We began the evening by twisting and clipping our hair back in to the 1998 styles we used to rock and listening to some Britney and Backstreet Boys. Of course we kicked off the evening with a game of Dreamphone and then tucked in to some classic Turkey Dinosaurs, Potato Smileys and My Little Pony Spaghetti Hoops. Then for dessert we had a Vienetta which totally took me back. I made some Oreo cupcakes for us to snack on during the movies (we of course watched 10 Things I Hate About You. Swoon!), opting for some themed toppers. Along with an “I heart 90s” logo I chose to recreate one of my favourite and most irritating toys of the time the Tamagotchi and represented some of the 90s fashion trends with a tie dye topper with some daises. I loved this nostalgia overdose and as I sat in my PJs eating Pop Tarts and watching Never Been Kissed I was reminded and so grateful of how much fun my childhood was.

Today is sweet Shannon’s 21st Birthday! I heard her favourite flavour is Oreo, so inspired by the cool greyish colour of the frosting I went for a silver and gold theme. To decorate the Oreo ones I handmade toppers using flowerpaste and shimmery dust. For the vanilla cupcakes I sprinkled them with these non-pareils and small sugar flowers in a matching gold. I think this might be my new fave colour combo, especially the warm gold colour and I love that the cupcake flavours kind of matched too. I hope Shannon had a brilliant day and a memorable birthday! x
