Mr and Mrs Stedman

I remember not long ago saying that I thought I was reaching the age where my friends might start asking me to make their wedding cakes…so when my friend Roderick got engaged to the gorgeous Lizzie and asked me to make their wedding cake I was thrilled. I couldn’t imagine making my first wedding cake for a lovelier couple. The cake was to be a surprise for the bride so Roderick and I worked on a design and came up with this colourful creation. Roderick was brilliant and knew exactly what he wanted, including incorporating smarties in to the decorations! Roderick chose a three-tier cake made up of Victoria sponge, chocolate cake and lemon cake covered in traditional white fondant. The decorations were to be a little less traditional but matched the whole wedding perfectly, which used multicoloured details and flowers that were perfectly suited to the fun couple. The final design was to have two tiers with different coloured sugar gerberas with mini smartie stems in a random pattern around the cake. We kept the middle tier simple and had tiny Roderick and Lizzie sitting under the word love. I adored making toppers for the first time, especially getting to recreate the couple’s distinctive hairstyles. I can’t begin to tell you how good it felt to have made my first wedding cake and how pleased, proud and excited I was to see my cake being cut and then enjoyed by everyone at the wedding. It was such an honour to be a part of such a special day for two very special people. Congratulations Roderick and Lizzie xx

  3. I was lucky enough to both see and sample this cake in the flesh at the wedding, and it puts any wedding cake i’ve ever had before to shame both in looks and taste!
