Succulent Cake

It’s been a while since I made Alexia a cake. Probably because my birthday is the day before hers and it’s always a bit hectic. This year she had a little party post-birthday weekend so made her this cake to celebrate. She, of course, loves plants and flowers and after a failed attempt at attending a terrarium class (don’t ask) I felt like she deserved some succulents, especially ones made of sugar. The cake itself is Oreo flavour. It’s one of her favourite flavours and allows for a sprinkling of Oreo crumb ‘dirt’ for the succulents to sit on. To make the succulents I thickly rolled out some flowerpaste mixed with a bit of sugarpaste in green and purpley grey and used a few simple flowers cutters in different sizes. I cut a few out so there would be lots of layers and pinched and prodded the ends so they would be chunky or pointed. I edible glued them all together and made some folding parts for the centres. Once they had dried I dusted them with purple lustre dust and green dust to give them a more earthy look. I used the extra mix to make cupcakes and sprinkled them with green non pareils to match. Happy Birthday Alexia! xxSucculent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_2 Succulent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_3 Succulent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_4 Succulent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_5 Succulent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_6 Succulent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_7 Succulent_cake_afternoon_crumbs_8
