Star Wars Cake

Guys, I’m a little bit obsessed with this cake. If it wasn’t for the cutest little boy turning 7, I don’t think I would have parted with it. I was so over excited that the brief was Star Wars. I loved the new movie and have been wanting to make a mega Star Wars themed cake ever since. You can see my rough sketch for the cake below. It included his favourite characters BB8 and Chewbacca and, of course, the Millennium Falcon. It also has a Kylo Ren, whose light sabre is also the birthday candle AND (my favourite part) the Death Star, which is also a mini piñata cake. The cake itself is Victoria sponge, covered in dark blue fondant, which I splattered using silver paint to make it look like the galxay. I printed the Star Wars lettering on to edible icing, mounted it on flowerpaste and then cut each letter out to make them slightly stand out from the cake. I made each of the figures out of a mixture of sugarpaste and flowerpaste and then painted them, used edible pens and royal icing to bring them to life. I think I actually miss having Chewie in the kitchen, he’s just so cute. Happy Birthday Ivor! x
