Map Birthday Cake
Last week I made this birthday cake for my friend’s Stepdad who was turning 65. I’ve known him for a long while now and I can safely say he is one of the kindest people I know. I don’t think I’ve ever made him a proper birthday cake before as he’s typically travelling around this time of the year, so I wanted to make him something special for his big birthday. He has so many interests and great achievements that could have been incorporated on the cake but my friend and I decided to celebrate things a little closer to home. I kept the design simple and was inspired by his love of the woods and pointer dogs. To decorate the cake I began by covering the lemon cake in a super pale green sugarpaste. I got a map online of where they live and marked their home with a heart using a drawing tool on my iPad. I then printed this on to sugar and trimmed it to fit the top of the cake. I created the woods around the sides of the cake using different sizes and shaped tree cutters, luckily I’d got some nice new ones this Christmas. To finish I added a little 65, a nod to his birthday, and little figure of their dog. Happy Birthday Dick! xx
