Game of Thrones

Warning: This post may contain spoilers…

I think I was pretty late to the Game of Thrones party. A friend insisted I watch it a year ago, she couldn’t understand how I wasn’t in to it already. It took me less than a month to catch up on the first five seasons and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I’ve been dying to make a GOT cake for ages. I really really wanted to make a throne and drip some blood. For the cake itself I made a classic Victoria Sponge layered on to a black cake board. It’s nowhere near the amount of blood shed on the show but for the one on the cake I thought I’d do my new favourite thing, colouring white chocolate ganache for drips.

I made the throne a couple days in advance so that it would have time to dry between each stage. It wasn’t toooooo tricky structurally and I went about making it roughly based on

Granny’s Hydrangea Cake

Granny_Drip_01

My grandmother is pretty damn amazing. Today she turned 93. She’s super funny, has great chat (she tells the best stories, I especially like the ones about things she ate as a kid in New York) and she has more energy for life than I do at 26.

Hope you’re spending your weekend eating hot cross buns, wearing bunny ears and hanging with your favourite people. I’ve been preparing for Easter for about a month now by eating fistfuls of mini eggs daily, icing egg biscuits and dreaming up bunny drip cakes. I find Easter to be one of the cuter celebrations – all baby animals and pastel colours. So I made this

A Most Curious Wedding Fair with Prezola

AMCWF_01

The lovely ladies at gift registry company Prezola got in touch to see if I would provide some cakes for their stand at The Most Curious Wedding Fair this weekend. I was really excited as I attended the fair last year with Alexia and it was brilliant. It’s full of creative people exhibiting their alternative wedding businesses. If you want a cool wedding this is the place to head. The Truman Brewery is full of quirky cakes, dreamy dresses and Instagramable stationary this weekend. There are a few of my favourite spots from last night’s Press Preview below!

But let me tell you about the cakes I made first. I made one two tier cake and lots of minis (go visit the ladies on the stand and they will give you a cheeky sample!) The cakes were to match the gorgeous Pip Studio ceramics they have which was a very exciting brief. I was asked to make something
